TRADITION
The company is located in the province of Palermo among Alcamo, the small country town of Grisì and Partinico.
It was born from the passion and intuition of Girolamo Tola called “Mimmo”, who inherited by his father Francesco the love for the country and above all for viniculture. For his family the land has been support, life but also enthusiasm, satisfaction and pride.
Since his childhood, Mimmo was involved in his father activities, and all this left him see the great sacrifice of that man who loved his work ardently. He got up at at dawn and come back home in the evening, all the day in the sun or in the cold, with the wind or in the rain, his face marked by weariness, so tired he could not utter a word but satisfied with the work done during that day.
Mimmo understood very soon that in order to realize his dreams and father’s project, he would have to study, prepare himself and that is necessary to devote so much time and effort to work. So he studied for six years in an exclusive oenology school in Marsala. This study laid the basis of the realization of his plan. The years that followed his degree in oenology, profoundly marked his practical training: he worked for the most renowned sicilian wineries, offering his technical advice; he refined his knowledge until to create products appreciated first in Sicily and subsequently at national level too.
Mimmo’s plan began to take form. To the family grapes, to the lands they already had others joined, everyone grown in vineyards, because the root on which Tola family, starting from their great grandparents, founded their existence is the vine. Around this plant, its care, respecting times till the vinification choices, turned around and goes on today his life.
In 1992 was born Azienda Vitivinicola Tola: the greatest dream finally comes true and Mimmo Tola becomes one of the most appreciated sicilian wine prducers.
Tola’s wines are created in respect of nature, from wholly company grapes of which, essentially in the first person and afterwards with the help of a team of experts, the owner takes care. His belief is “the wine is made in the vineyard”, everything begins from here and that’s why it’s important to make a great wine to worry about the plant since his birth. The vineyards of Tola company are located on the Bosco Falconeria estate, at an altitude of about 400 metres above sea level, in one of the most prestigious terroir of Sicily. From there one can see the entire gulf of Castellammare, where the plains beaten by south-east winds and the slight sea breeze give up to the gentle and sunny hills.
The cultivation is espalier, to simple guyot with a density of 4600 plants per hectare, with a vine spacing of 240x90 cm. and an average production of about 2 kg. per plant. Tola wines come from highly selected grapes from native vines such as: Nero d’Avola, Syrah, Grillo, Catarratto, Insolia and from non-authocton vines like Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot noir. Every wine claims its individuality, paternity of the grape, tells its story and above all has marked distinctive characteristics according to the sicilian winemaking tradition.
INNOVATION
The innovative strategies, the attention to new techniques and technologies in the vineyard and in the cellar, the refinement and preservation in french oak barriques characterize the quality process giving life to typical and innovative wines that enhance the exotic aromas of the land of Sicily. For all this, Azienda Vitivinicola Tola, had the recognition of very important awards obtained in the most prestigious Italian and world competition.
Considering the recent market data that enter up a positive trend in the consumption of quality Italian wine both in Italy and abroad, the company aims to improve, from year to year, its global performance and the quality level of the range of its products in order to be more competitive on the market.
The objective is to transmit sensory experiences that only the taste and the scents of the grapes, cultivated and worked with knowledge can give.
Moreover, the company has always tried to do its best in order to gain more control, in terms of lower management costs, effort to cut both energy waste thanks to the purchase of latest generation machinery, with low environmental impact and reduced CO2 emission, and the consumption of raw materials necessary in the process of transformation, manifacture and storage.
Quality, tradition, innovation, internationalization and strategy, are five terms ideally characterizing the five points of a shooting star that orients the path the company has taken.
Tola wants to communicate a product closely connected to the territory and the land where is produced, the family and the people who produce it, with the sea view and the cultural, historical and social DNA of its landscape where the vineyards are grown.
